In this guide, you’ll learn how to connect your existing GA4 (Google Analytics vrs. 4) account to your Giftpro store using Google Tag Manager.
1. From the dashboard of your GA4 account, click the cog symbol in the bottom left-hand corner:
2. You’ll be redirected to this page. Click the Create button in the left-hand corner:
3. From the drop-down menu, select Account:
4. You’ll then be redirected to this page. Add the name of your Giftpro store in the field provided:
5. Scroll further down the page and click the blue Next button on the left-hand side:
6. On the next page, add the name of your Giftpro store in the field provided, check the time zone and currency selected are correct and click the blue Next button:
7. Choose your Industry Category using the drop-down, then select the relevant box on this page and click the Next button on the bottom left-hand side:
8. On this page, tick the relevant boxes and click the Create button at the bottom of the page:
9. You’ll then see this modal appear. You’ll need to tick the relevant boxes before clicking the I Accept button on the bottom left-hand corner:
10. Now you need to click Web:
11. Paste the URL of your Giftpro store in the Website URL field, and add the name of your Giftpro store in the Stream Name field before clicking the Create And Continue button in the top right-hand corner:
12. Click the X in the top left-hand corner:
13. Click the Copy symbol next to the Measurement ID and paste this onto a Notepad (.txt) file, or if you’re using a Mac, use Text Editor. You will need this later on:
14. Click the X in the top left-hand corner:
15. This will return you to the dashboard:
Adding GA4 to Your Giftpro Store
16. Using a separate browser tab, log into your Giftpro store and click Settings on the left-hand side:
17. Click Tracking Codes:
18. Click Edit on the far right-hand side:
19. In the modal that appears, tick the box for Google and then click the Proceed button:
20. Click the down arrow to access the drop-down options, and select Google Analytics v4:
21. You’ll then see a Measurement ID field appear. Paste in your Measurement ID, and then click Save Changes in the top right-hand corner:
22. Return to the browser tab displaying your GA4 account and click your Giftpro store:
23. This will open the side modal again. Scroll down and click the arrow symbol to the far right of Configure Tag Settings:
24. Click Installation Instructions on the right-hand side:
25. Click Install Manually:
26. Now you need to click Test on the right-hand side:
27. You’ll see a green tick on the left-hand side of your Giftpro store URL. Click the X on the top left-hand corner:
28. You’ll be returned to this side modal. Click the X at the top left-hand side:
29. Click the X and the top left-hand side:
Creating your Google Tag Manager Account
30. On your Google Analytics dashboard, click the name of your Giftpro shop in the top left-hand corner:
31. Click the square Google Tag Manager icon:
32. Click Accounts Page in the bottom left-hand corner:
33. This will open a new tab on your browser. Click Create Account in the top right-hand corner:
34. Now, you need to complete the fields provided before clicking the Create button in the bottom left-hand corner:
35. A menu of terms will appear. Tick the box at the bottom and then the blue Yes button in the top right-hand corner:
36. You’ll now see a window holding two pieces of code appear. Click OK in the bottom right-hand corner:
Creating the Consent Tag
37. Now that you have installed the code on your Giftpro store, your next step is configuring your Google Tags to pass data to GA4. Click Add New Tag:
38. Give this new Tag a name by clicking in the top left-hand corner and replacing the text, and then click the Edit symbol in the top right-hand corner of the Tag Configuration element:
39. In the menu that appears on the right-hand side, click Google Tag:
40. You’ll then see this menu:
41. Return to the browser tab displaying your Google Analytics account, and click Data Streams in the left-hand side menu:
42. Click the name of your Giftpro store:
43. This will reveal your Measurement ID. Click the symbol to copy this, and then return to the browser tab displaying Google Tag Manager:
44. Paste the Measurement ID into the field provided, and then click the Save button in the top right-hand corner:
45. In the window that appears, click Add Trigger:
46. Now you need to click Consent Initialization - All Pages:
47. Finally, click the blue Save button in the top right-hand corner:
Creating the Events Tag
48. You will then be redirected to the Google Tag Manager Dashboard. Again, you need to click Add A New Tag:
49. Again, you need to give this Tag a name by amending the text in the top left-hand corner and then clicking the Edit symbol:
50. From the menu on the right-hand side, click Google Analytics:
51. Click Google Analytics: GA4 Event:
52. Paste the Measurement ID in the field provided:
53. Click the symbol on the Event Name field:
54. Now you need to click Custom Event:
55. Click More Settings:
56. Tick the box to Send Ecommerce Data, and ensure that Data Layer is selected in the drop-down menu:
57. Click Advanced Settings:
58. Scroll down and tick the box for No Additional Consent Required:
59. Scroll further down and click the Edit symbol in the top right-hand corner of the Triggering element:
60. Click the plus symbol in the top right-hand corner:
61. Give this trigger a name in the field in the top left-hand corner, and then click the edit symbol in the Trigger Configuration element:
62. Scroll down the right-hand side menu and click Custom Event:
63. Copy this text: view_item_list|select_content|select_item|view_item|add_to_cart|begin_checkout|add_payment_info|checkout_progress|purchase
64. Paste the text into the Event Name field, tick the box to Use Regex Matching and ensure that the box for All Custom Events is checked before clicking Save in the top right-hand corner:
Your Giftpro store will pass the following Google Analytics events:
view_item_list
select_content
select_item
view_item
add_to_cart
begin_checkout
add_payment_info
checkout_progress
purchase

65. You’ll then be returned to this page. Click Save in the top right-hand corner:
66. Now you have finished configuring your Google Tags. Within the back end of your Giftpro store, the Tracking Codes should look like this:
