In this guide, you’ll learn how to add a Single Product to your Giftpro store.
Before you begin, it's a good idea to prepare the image to be added to your product. This image needs to be horizontal, measure 1620 pixels by 900 pixels, and have a maximum file size of 15 Mb.
1. From the Dashboard, click Gifts on the left-hand menu:
2. Then you need to click Create Product on the submenu:
Name
3. The name of your product is essential as it helps your customers quickly find it in your Giftpro store or in search engine results:
SKU
4. In this field, you need to add the SKU for your product. This can also be called an EAN, GTIN, ISBN or Product Code:
Status
5. Here, you need to tick the relevant box to set the status of your product:
Draft - The product will be created but only available for sale once published.
Live - the product will be ready for purchase.
Scheduled - the product will be published on a given time and date.
Visibility
6. Below this, you then need to set the Visibility:
Public - This will make the product visible on your Giftpro store so customers can add it to their baskets. You can also add Public products to your customers' baskets internally.
Direct Link - You will use this option if you need to send the product to a single customer, an exclusive guest list, or add it to a newsletter. Direct Link products are not visible to everyone, or displayed on your Giftpro store.
Offline Only - These products can be used by internal staff, but you must check them out using the back end of your Giftpro account.
Images
7. Now, it’s time to upload an image for your product. Click the Upload button and select the relevant file from your computer:
It’s a good idea not to use an image with any text, as this image will be minimised or maximised according to the browser your customer uses, such as a mobile phone, tablet, or laptop. Also, if you need a generic image for your product, websites such as Pixabay.com and Unsplash.com are good places to source royalty-free images.
8. When you have you have uploaded your image, you’ll see a preview of it. To add more images for your product, simply click Upload to add more:
Type
9. Now you need to tick the box for Standard:
If you want to offer a product with different choices and options, you must create a Configurable Product by following the steps in this guide.
Pricing
10. Now you need to add your Pricing by adding the price of the product in the field provided:
Face Value - You can also click the padlock symbol to set a different Face Value, such as retailing a £25.00 product for £20.00.
By default, products will be valid for the same amount as the price, but to set a different face value, you can click the lock icon to allow for this box to be edited.
Price Suffix - Adding a Price Suffix is a good idea as it clarifies what the product is intended for.
Description
11. In the field provided, paste the description of your product. You must add some descriptive information to ensure your customers understand your product. We recommend keeping it simple and making sure you describe all of the USPs (Unique Selling Points) associated with your product. This is your main piece of sales copy, so make it as compelling as possible. Around 180 words is an optimum length. You’ll see a few formatting tools above the main field, so consider using them to make your description easy to read:
If you are copying your product description from elsewhere, such as a Microsoft Word document or a website, ensure that you paste it into the NotePad application first (if you’re using a PC, run a search for Notepad, however, if you are on a Mac, use TextEditor).
Using this method ensures that any code used to format the text elsewhere or third-party coding is not carried onto your Giftpro store, so you will not encounter issues such as bullet points that don’t line up properly and text in different sizes and colours throughout the paragraphs.
12. When you have added your Description, be sure to check the boxes below if applicable to your product:
Enquiries
13. For each product, there is an individual enquiry form. If you want to change where enquiries for that specific product go, simply enter the relevant email addresses separated by commas. For example, use these settings if you wish enquiries about ‘the spa’ to go to your Spa Team. If you leave this blank, enquiries will go to your store’s default email address:
Additional Contact Form Email Recipients - Suppose a customer uses the 'Ask A Question' button on the product page. In that case, you can add additional email addresses here of people you wish to receive a copy of the enquiry who aren't set up by default to receive enquiries.
Additional Order Confirmation Email CC Recipients - You can add email addresses here so people can receive a copy of the order confirmation email, which is not set up by default to receive email confirmations.
Phone Number Displayed - You can set a different phone number to display on this product page instead of your store's default number.
Options
14. Below the Enquiries, you can then select Options for your product:
Add Special Offer Tag - Tick this box to add a ‘special offer’ tag to your product.
Show Price as ‘Now From’ - Tick this box to indicate a new low price for your product.
Disable personalisation with gift message in checkout - Tick this box to remove your customer's ability to add a gift message to their product.
Hide ‘Quantity’ input - Tick this box to hide the quantity field.
Set Maximum total quantity - Tick this box to set the maximum number of products available. When you select this option, you can also opt whether to display the total quantity for sale remaining.
Added to Basket Text -Singular/Multiple - Here, you can see - and amend if you want - the text customers will see when adding your product to their basket.
Related Products
15. If your Giftpro store already has many vouchers and/or products, you’ll see the Related Products element. Although unnecessary, you can rename the Section Title by adding the relevant text to the provided field. Then you need to click on three products of your choice in the left-hand column to add them as Related Products to the product page for the item you’re currently creating:
You’ll only see the Related Products element if you have saved your product beforehand. If it is not visible, click Save Changes in the top right-hand corner and then return to edit your product to see this element and set up your Related Products.
Terms & Conditions
16. Copy and paste your Terms & conditions into the field provided. You’ll see a few formatting tools above the main field, so consider using them to make your text easy to read:
Additional Information
17. If you need to add any additional information to your product in the form of a pop-up, tick this box:
18. This will open up two additional fields for you to complete to create your pop-up:
SEO
19. The last element on this page is where you can configure the SEO for your product:
20. The permalink is the URL extension that appears in the browser. It’s also the link that sends people directly to the specific product page, e.g., ‘yourdomainname.giftpro.co.uk/champagne-afternoon-tea/’.
Meta Title
21. In search engine results, this is the title of the page that would be displayed as blue text:
22. This ideally needs to display your shop name, location (if applicable), and product name:
Meta Description
23. In search engine results, this is the grey text that resides under the blue Meta Title and usually consists of a short summary detailing the information to be found on that page:
24. The quickest way to populate this area is to choose a paragraph from your Description field further up the page:
25. Now you have populated this page with all of the information required for your product, you need to click the green Save Changes button in the top right-hand corner:
26. You’ll see a success notification in the bottom middle of the screen for a moment, and then click product in the top left-hand corner:
27. You’ll then be able to see your product listed on either the Live, Scheduled or Draft tab - depending on what status you gave your product when creating it:
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does my description need to be?
Aim for a description of around 180 words. This guide has more about writing descriptions.
How many images can I add to my product?
The minimum is one, but there is no upper limit on the number of images you can add to a product. Ideally, a single, all-encompassing image is perfect, but if your product has different parts—such as a skincare set, for example—you may want to add a photo for each item involved in the product.
How many email addresses can be added to Enquiries?
The number of email addresses you can cc here is unlimited. Be sure to include only the relevant members of your team and not clog everyone’s inboxes with emails!
How many products can I sell in my store?
There's no limit to the number of products you can add to your store. We recommend you don’t overwhelm your customers with options (choice paralysis is very real), but equally, it’s important to give them a good range from which to choose. Three or four options per department is a good start. A good way to organise a large inventory of products is by using categories which are easy to configure from the admin area.
What delivery methods can I offer?
Postal delivery has two options: Royal Mail first class delivery and Royal Mail special delivery (guaranteed before 1 pm the next working day). You can even choose how much you’d like to charge your customers for their postal delivery.
Click and Collect - You can now offer customers the option to buy online and pick up their product at the venue to avoid postage costs, and Giftpro includes a click-and-collect management area to help make things easy for you. Click here to learn more about fulfilment.
